The You Are Series

You are Redeemed.

I don’t think I could possibly say this to you enough times.

The past couple of posts in this series have been You Are Loved and You Are Chosen and I feel like those two lead so perfectly into this post.

In my opinion, one of the biggest lies that keep people from beginning a walk with Jesus is that they are somehow not good enough for Him, or have done too much to be loved by Him. And honestly, I could not be more passionate about this topic. I think it is vitally important to understand that the love of Jesus and the power of His sacrifice on the cross are so much bigger than anything we could ever do on this earth.

In Romans 3:23 it says “For ALL have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” All of us. Not one of us is more worthy of the love of Jesus than another, we all missed the mark. There is no hierarchy of unworthiness in the kingdom of God.

When Jesus died on the cross, He didn’t say “This is for all the people that don’t sin very much and live the best lives they can.” He said “IT IS FINISHED.” Finished. Done. Final. Over. That doesn’t exclude any of your sin. If you ask Him for forgiveness, you are forgiven.

But do you know what is even better than being forgiven? Being Redeemed. The word redeemed actually means paid for in full, it means that what you have done in your life is completely off the record. You are not only forgiven, but you no longer have to worry about the payment for your sin because it has been taken care of.

It basically would be like this: If you got pulled over for speeding, and the cop wrote you a big fat speeding ticket, and then he said “but, its ok, because I forgive you.” But, not only that, he pulled out his own wallet and payed the price for your speeding ticket out of his own resources. It seems totally crazy right? But it’s true. Jesus said you have sinned, you have fallen short of perfection and without that you can’t make it into heaven, but it’s ok, because I forgive you and I am going to give my life to pay the price for you.

So do not live shackled by any feeling of guilt or shame in your life. We all have sinned. We all have fallen short. None of us deserves the gift we have been given. But the gift of freedom has already been given. The lie that you are not good enough and have done too much is just that. Its a lie. Live this week in the freedom of knowing that the price for you has been paid. You are free to live without the weight of your sin.

Jesus didn’t die so that we would live our lives shackled by the weight of our sin and guilt. He died so that we could live this life in freedom with hope for an eternity with Him.
